Keeping it all together

Having touble remembering what you've done and what needs to be done when planning your wedding? There are so many things! It's a great idea to create a checklist to help you remember what you need to complete before the big event. I also really recommend keeping everything in a wedding binder and keeping a date book to schedule all your meetings and appointments.
Staying organized means eliminating stress and the risk of mistake.

- If you need help assembling a checklist, visit American Bridal and use their abundance of checklists that they have made available to you.
- TheKnot.com is another great resource for you. Sign up and recieve helpful tips, reminders, use their checklists, build a personal wedding site, and take advantage of the other helpful tools they provide.
- Another site i really like is Wedding Wire. Wedding Wire is another helpful wedding planning system but they even give you tools to help arrange reception seating. It's really cool.

What tools are you using to stay organized?

Finding the perfect favor

When it comes to choosing a wedding favor for your guests, I think it's important to show you've been thoughtful. There are so many people to thank for their role in your special day; parents, bridesmaids, groomsman, guests, out of town guests... phew! Certainly it's not necessary to be throwing gifts at everyone, but it's nice to take the time to find or make something special for those people who really deserve it.

I get bored with the same old things. Great gifts are ones that are thoughtful or even hand made. But for those who need a little help, there are some great sites with fun ideas for gifts and are definitely worth checking out.

My Modern Day Vineyard Fairytale

Okay, okay. I know what you're going to think... but a girl's allowed to show off her one and only day! :) Really, I just want to share ideas on this blog and maybe you'll see a photo that inspires you or you'll find the vendor you needed!? You never know.

On May 17, I was married to the love of my life, Jason. We were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and then had our reception at Parkway Place. I wanted to share with you some photos, all taken by Decisive Moment Photojournalism in Toledo, of our event some links of vendors we used. Maybe it will spark some ideas for you.

We had a wine themed wedding decorated with dark aubergine purple and chartreuse green. We used grape clusters and vines, large purple roses, natural branching, wine crates, wine bottles and green orchids to make our modern day vineyard come to life. Our party favors were home made bottles of wine with a custom label. The whole place looked magical... well if you ask me! The best thing is, Parkway doesn't need hardly a thing to look stunning.
Our guests received a bottle of home made Red Zinfandel wine with a recipe card chosen by Jason and me recommended to compliment. Our flowers were all silk! You'd never even know! What a HUGE budget saver and we were able to get triple the flowers and decorations because of it. Rainbow Flowers were the masterminds behind the floral madness and what friendly people too.

I like to do things myself, so instead of buying a guest book I designed it! We took our engagement photos and turned them into a book at Blurb.com. We put a photo on the left and space to sign on the right. Our guests loved seeing our photos and it makes a great keepsake.

Instead of using numbers, we used different names of wine to name our tables.

We had been gathering empty wine bottles for months! We also found old wine crates and lots of grape bunches to ceodrate between the pillars. It really defined the mood. We also used wine corks to display the name cards for seating assignments. We just cut a flat edge and then created a groove for the paper to set in. They were so fun!

See the dinner menus? I designed those for our guests. We opted for the buffet, but the charger plates really added some elegance to the tables.
I don't like the traditional cake stand so we had our cake placed on top of some old wine crates to keep with the theme. Who made it, you ask? Paula Daughtery - 419-885-4004
Jason and I love to try new things, so we took lessons from The Ballroom Company in Maumee. We performed a Rumba to "Everything" by Michael Bublé and even let the bridal Party jump in at the end! Yes, they learned the dance too! It was so much fun and our guests TOTALLY loved it!
This is Holly Trolley! She was our ride from the church to the reception.

Decisive Moment Photojournalism did the photography for our wedding and engagement session. This is one of our favorite photos. We enjoied our Photographer, Brenna :)
The decorated archway at the entrance of the church really made the entrance more fun. We also lined the aisle runner with purple and a touch of green flower petals to make it dramatic! My mom made the runner from white satin with lace on either end. That really meant a lot to me.

Recognize that Bridesmaid??? Yup! That's our very own Event Coordinator, Elizabeth Simon! One of my best friends since high school Elizabeth was absolutely one of the most important people standing next to us at our wedding. Not-to-mention she about did everything when it came to setting up and making sure things went smoothly. Thanks Elizabeth! You're next, Bride-to-be :)

Send me photos of your wedding with your ideas! What did you do that might inspire other brides? Or just tell me about what you're planning.

The Guest Book Make Over

I got the idea for this post from Stephanie who's been participating in the blog recently. So thanks Steph!

I've never entertained the idea of a white satin book lined with lace and pearls as a signature collector at a wedding. It's more like work for your guests to have to stand in line to sign their names as if proving they attended a high school extra credit event. The books always end up in a closet somewhere never to be looked at again.

So when I was married, I decided the guest book needed a make-over. I wanted it to be something I would enjoy looking at from time-to-time, that could be a decorative piece in my home as well as a fun memory of those who shared our day. But it also had to be something my guests wouldn't find annoying.

My solution: I designed a photo book that consisted of one of our engagement photos on the left page and a place to write well wishes on the right page! I used Blurb.com to create my book. I downloaded the program from their site, uploaded my photos from my computer, and then designed my book using their super easy tools. When it was finished I ordered the book online for $30 and it arrived in a few short days. I love this book because it was a fun way to display our favorite photos from our engagement for our guests to see. But more importantly my husband and I got a beautiful collection of our photos with wonderful notes and signatures from those who not only shared our big day with us but those who have shaped our lives growing up and encouraged our relationship as husband and wife. Our book sits on our coffee table for friends and family to enjoy and to remind us how lucky we are.

Some Other Ideas For Your "Guest Book"
• blurb.com photo book
• create a scrapbook with photos of the couple
• frame your favorite image with large white matting and leave a black marker for guests to sign it.
• Leave a blank album, a Polaroid camera, and a black marker on a table. Assign someone to snap a photo of guests as they arrive and allow them to sign their names or write a note on the photo with a black marker. Then stick the photo in an album for the bride and groom to remember.
• Set up a video camera and let guests tape special messages and warm wishes. That will be fun to watch later!

Have another idea? Share them with me!

The Future Mrs. Rairigh

Congratulations to Parkway's own Elizabeth Simon who became engaged on Monday morning! Our very own wedding coordinator has begun planning her own wedding to her soon-to-be hubby, Mark Rairigh who sent her on a scavenger hunt, of sorts, that lead to him on one knee. *sigh*
There simply is no one better to plan such a day than Elizabeth herself and we are just thrilled for her, Mark and their families. Congrats you two!

FREE Custom Invitation Design Winner!

Congratulations to Jamie Looney! Her and her finance David have won FREE custom invitation design for her June 13, 2009 wedding at Cambridge Place! I will be working with Jamie and David to design their one-of-a-kind invitations and I can't wait to get started!

Jamie has told me a little about her wedding; it will be black, white, and petal pink and the whole occasion will have a "Love" theme. Her table names will be the definitions of beautiful words like Love, Honesty, Marriage, Happiness and so on and she's chosen some natural branching with soft pink blooms as a decorative accent. I'm so excited to start on Jamie and David's wedding pieces because I think she's made some unique and stunning choices.

Announcing the Improved Mt. Vernon Room!

It's finally finished! We spent the last few months reconstructing the Mt. Vernon Room to better accommodate your event. The dance floor is now surrounded by stunning pillars that mimic the grand ballroom. Draping white swags with white lights create a glowing ambiance above the dance floor. The room now has two separate sides and we've added a wet bar making it even more flexible for your event layout and guest numbers without effecting your space. And a large window now opens up the Mt. Vernon foyer into the dance floor as you arrive.

The Mt. Vernon Room is perfect for weddings from 50-200 guests and is perfect for other events like:

• Corporate events
• Bridal and baby showers
• Organization celebrations
• Holiday gatherings
• Anniversary parties
• Birthday bashes
• Collegiate events
• and more

Visit us at our Parkway Open House every Friday evening from 5 to 7 so you can see The Mt. Vernon room for yourself!

What's In Your Emergency Bag???

When I got married, I had no idea how much I would rely on my amazing bridesmaids. I like to think that I'm prepared for anything but boy was I glad my best friends were there to help out that day. Things were going great while getting ready for the ceremony... until I needed scissors, a safety pin, clear nail polish, and a swiss army knife (long story involving the mother's candles). Lucky for me, my bridesmaids had gone out a few days before and assembled an Emergency Bag with everything we might need! They had pins, polish, and scissors ready to go!

In a Vera Bradley handbag the girls had collected everything from bobby pins, to pain killers. They were so thoughtful and creative about every possible situation we might have to endure! I couldn't have been more grateful! In their kit they packed:

bobby pins
safety pins
perfume
IB Profane, Midol, Tylenol
Tums
Band Aids
Neosporin
sewing kit
mints and gum
deodorant
scissors
nail clippers
nail file
clear and white polish for french manicure touch ups or panty hose rips!
tissues
hair spray
mouth wash
lotion
razor for those missed spots :)
baby wipes
brush and comb
hand sanitizer
lip gloss
baby power
face powder for touch ups
tweezers
eye drops
cash and coins (you never know)
extra earring backs
tape
stain remover
camera
matches
contact list (all vendors, wedding party, and parents)

Thank goodness I had them to take care of me and each other! I was worry free. And guess who was the master mind behind the Emergency Bag... none other then Parkway Coordinator, and my bridesmaid, Elizabeth Simon! This girl is good.

Ok, I had to share...
If you've browsed through the list of companies we recommend, you may have stumbled upon JP Photography by Julie Paszczykowski. I friend of a friend, her name is Echo, is a photographer at JP and I thought we might feel comfortable with her so we booked a session there. Both Julie and Echo shot our session and after seeing the photos, we are just glowing! We had no idea we could look so good! We aren't models, but we had so much fun with Julie and Echo. Naming Your Wedding Reception Tables

Elizabeth called me while setting up for a wedding at Parkway last weekend. She just HAD to tell me about the creative table names the bride and groom had used and I had to agree that it was a such a wonderfully personal idea.

The bride and groom had assembled a list of facts and details about their relationship and used them to name each table. For example, "365 Miles" was one of the table names and represented the number of miles they had to travel to reach each other for their first meeting. So cute! It would be really neat to include a small paragraph explaining the name for your guests to read. The names could come from anywhere! Some ideas may be:

• where you first met
• had your first kiss
• favorite vacation spot
• favorite song
• an inside joke
• favorite restaurant
• how expensive your first date was
• where you went to school together
• the date of your wedding day!

I like the idea of breaking away from the numbering system. Let your table names help tell your wedding day story. If you have a theme, consider expanding the theme into your table names. For example, a wine themed wedding could use different grape names or a winter wedding could use winter words like "Frost", "White", "Icicle", or "Snowflake".

Some other fun ways to name your tables:
• photographs
• favorite activities and adventures
• favorite movies
• hobbies
• honeymoon destinations
• Bible verses
• Celtic Symbols
• words of admiration

Do you have other ideas? I'd love to hear them!

Mt. Vernon Room has gone to the dogs!

Last Wednesday, we were honored to host the Assistance Dogs Association graduation celebration. On the menu... Kibbles and Bits and bacon treats! Ok, not really, but the guests of honor were 7 beautiful and incredibly smart dogs who had just finished training with their new owners who were also being honored. These dogs and their owners work together to complete everyday activities and offer companionship and support for one another. It was really enjoyable to watch them interact and their stories were heartwarming.

I wanted to remind you all that Parkway and Cambridge place isn't just for weddings. Host a company party, holiday celebration, baby and bridal showers, or an event for your organization. And if you don't need all the space the Mt. Vernon Room at Parkway is perfect for guests numbers 50 - 150. It's also worth noting that we can accommodate your needs and special requests so don't hesitate to ask.

A LaClair Affair

Bob and Kim LaClair hosted a beautiful blue and pink reception for their daughter Lindsay and new son-in-law Mike. I was able to stop in and see the party in action! I thought I'd show you a few details from their event. I loved the bowl of flowers and self-standing menu but my favorite element are the white lights around the pillars.

A Bright Idea from Mitch and Kellie

On the fifth of July, Mitch and Kellie were married and chose to celebrate at the Parkway! Kellie decorated her special day in a beautiful and vibrant yellow that just lit up the room.

When I saw the room decorated for her big night, the centerpieces are what jumped out at me. Instead of flowers or candles, Mitch and Kellie placed cupcake tears on every table, each topped with an adorable sunflower candy. This made dessert time so easy for their guests... but so tempting through dinner! They saved money as well doubling decor as dessert! Smart thinking. For themselves, a small two teared cake with sunflowers sat on the cake table. It was such a fresh and budget friendly idea.

For their guests, a small white candle wrapped in a sparkling yellow tule and tied with a white bow sat at each place setting. You could definitely feel the warmth Mitch and Kellie wanted to share.

Some "bright" sayings to add to your candle favors:

"Burning Love"
"Light if my life"
"Warm memories, Bright future"
"Take a bit of today's joy to brighten tomorrow"
“The Light of our Love will Always Burn Bright”

Save $100 with Decorative Sound!

Looking for a DJ for your event? Decorative Sound is a phenomenal entertainment company in the Toledo area and they are offering $100 off your DJ services for Parkway and Cambridge clients! Just mention this blog post and you'll save $100!
Here's the number: 419-867-6733

Personally, I can speak to Decorative Sounds professionalism. My husband and I had been to three weddings DJed by Decorative Sound and then booked them for our own wedding back in May.

Their Advantage:
• Punctuality - They arrive at your event 2 hours before it begins to ensure they are set to go and to keep your stress at 0%

• They give you unlimited time - if your event runs over, no big deal! They are there to keep the party going as long as you want!

• Professionalism - Incomparable. Always in a tuxedo, pleasant and personable, they listen to what you want for your party.

• They will play at your ceremony - How great is that? Make things much easier on yourself, and let them take care of the ceremony.

I'm telling you, we were completely impressed! We enjoyed their style, they don't talk too much or annoy your guests. Our DJ was even there to greet me straight off our trolley when we arrived at the reception. He took care of everything. Never bothered me and took the night on a great pace.
Even more, I appreciated that they listened to what was important to us. Jason, my husband, and I had a style for the wedding that we wanted portrayed in our music. Along with a few songs we mentioned were very important to us, they made that feeling come alive with their music selections. We couldn't have been more pleased.

You just can't go wrong with this company AND Parkway and Cambridge clients will SAVE $100!!!

Carol is George Sr. wonderful wife and one of the masterminds behind the success of Cambridge and Parkway Place. Carol is the keen eye that adds that "WOW" factor to the halls. The large arch window above the entrance, the complimentary decor, the grand piano by the fire place... Carol brings the elegance. She's very crafty too having built the arch window framing herself! As an owner, Carol certainly contributes her thoughts and calls some of the shots. She's an incredibly sweet and fun woman that you'd be lucky to meet.

George Jr. Zilba - Owner and "Everything Guy"
The Zilba men don't rest! George is just like his father, always on the go and getting things done. George is another one of the brilliant minds behind the design and construction of the Cambridge and Parkway Halls and like George Sr. he is involved in everything that happens in the halls. His business savvy allows them to continue the renovations and gorgeous additions to their buildings so that it's just a little bit different from the last time you might have been there! Its never the same experience.

Terri Mlynarek- Event Coordinator
Terri has been with Cambridge Place for 25 years and is the creative mind behind planning and decorating all the events at Cambridge. She knows these venues inside and out and just has a knack for decorating the beautiful pillars and other structures in Parkway and Cambridge. She'll decorate your head table, the dance floor, put up gorgeous ceiling swags and lights! George Sr. describes Terri as a very hard worker and she will make sure everything is set to you for your event.

Gary Hanes - Event Coordinator
For 12 years Gary has been serving the guests of Cambridge and Parkway Place. He knows the ins and outs of the hall functions and is a big sweetheart to work with! Before coming to Cambridge and Parkway, Gary worked as an event planner in Washington D.C. so he's definitely got the know-how. Another great quality about Gary is that he's always striving to improve the halls by offering suggestions and ideas based on his previous experience. So far, we listen.

Elizabeth Simon - Event Coordinator
Elizabeth is your go-to-girl for the planning and organization of your big event. As Head Coordinator of Parkway Place she will meet with you to discuss all your important details and will be 100% focused on your needs. Pat Prochnow - "The Cake Lady"
Affectionately called "The Cake Lady", Pat is our top of the line cake baker and artist. She's been with the Cambridge for 15 years and has many more to come. George Sr. describes her as "...full of energy and a GREAT worker." Pat will create the cake of your dreams for your wedding day, bridal or baby shower or other company event. Her cakes are always fresh, beautiful, and on time. Take a look at some of her stunning cakes on the website now.

There are over 5o staff members at Cambridge and Parkway place that assist in making your event perfect! They are apart of everything including, set up, cooking, clean up throughout your event and after. They've been doing this for years so they know what to look for and what needs to be done. It's because of them that the halls stay as clean and stunning as they look for every event. Did you know that sometimes, the crew will stay until 4am spot cleaning, waxing, and wiping down every part of the hall? The kitchen floor is so clean, you could eat off it! It's because of hard workers like we have here, that the venues look brand new each and every time you come. So a big thank you to our staff!
